Albert Pujols

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols has been called "The Machine," as in the hitting machine. In his first 12 seasons, Pujols hit over 30 homers each year and over 100 RBIs in 11 of the 12, but he's just as productive off the field, having started the Pujols' Family Foundation. The foundation provides money and support to children with Down syndrome, as well as needy children in his native Dominican Republic.

Sports Stars Who Care series. These books touch on the philanthropic efforts of the title sports stars, in some cases greatly padded by biographical information and career stats (Albert Pujols started a foundation for kids with Down syndrome, which his daughter has, making his efforts seem more personal). Beyond the do-gooder hook there's nothing much new, but reluctant readers will appreciate the accessible writing style and sports photographs. Reading list, websites.
