Fabulous Fashions of the 1990s
The 1990s saw the resurrection of styles from the past with a modern twist. The babydoll dresses of the 1960s and the hip-hugging jeans of the 1970s were back in fashion. Women copied Jennifer Aniston's bouncy layered haircut on Friends, known as the Rachel. Men went for George Clooney's neat and clean Caesar haircut. For those who wanted to make an antifashion statement, grunge was the way to go. Communicating with people all around the world became easier than ever with the advancement of cell phones, the Internet, and cable television. Readers will learn about the fashions, fads, pop culture icons, and world events of the 1990s.

Ever wonder what year body piercings became fashionable or when did the spaghetti string tank top first appear? This particular book in the Fabulous Fashions of the Decades series outlines key fashion elements of the Nineties. Shirts that changed color due to body heat and hit television shows like Beverly Hills 90210, are all aspects of fashion and culture that are discussed. Similar to the other books in the series each chapter has an introduction that highlights the key ideas. The problem is that the chapters are so short that an introduction is not needed. The introduction becomes repetitive and unnecessary. There are lots of pictures to help viewers see some of the fashions and a glossary at the end to help with some of the perhaps more difficult terms or pieces of fashion. Overall the book offers a simplified version of fashion in the Nineties that is great for a younger audience. 2012, Enslow Publishers,, $23.93. Ages 8 to 12., Children's Literature
