Genetics and Evolution Science Fair Projects, Using the Scientific Method
Why do some humans have curved thumbs while others have straight thumbs? What is DNA? What happens during cell division? Using easy-to-find materials, young scientists will explore genetics, evolution, and classification, and more, all with the help of the scientific method. For students interested in competing in science fairs, this book contains great suggestions and ideas for further experiments.

Genetics and Evolution Science Fair Projects, by Robert Gardner, can be a useful resource for teaching young students about the process of science if used correctly. The beginning section of the book gives great information on the importance of originality in conducting research, collecting data, and using findings to analyze original hypotheses. The next sections outline fun experiments in a variety of topics, from simple classification, using the example of the postal system, to more complex matters such as adaptations and comparison of primate DNA. Each section begins with detailed, but understandable, background information on the subject at hand I think the experiments described in each section would be great activities to use in a classroom to introduce these topics, but not as science projects.
