From an elephant's trunk to a blue-tailed skink's detachable tail, this series is a colorful introduction of the concept of how form fulfills function Animals are presented with a full-page photograph of the animal in its natural habitat and an "up close" photograph of the book's titled feature, with a quick discussion explaining why a foot of that shape or an ear of that size serves the animal well. A Guessing Game presents four animals not covered in the text and has readers match questions about their unusual features. The human reader is the final animal discussed, and the serles' only disappointment. The form-fulfills-function pattern of the series' text does not extend to the final page, which is a shame.
