Summer Colors

The colors of Summer are here. Color can be found everywhere, in flags, flowers, birds, and kites. Using sight words and simple sentences, early readers are shown the colors of the rainbow, and then find each color of the rainbow as the book progresses. Contains large, readable text.

In this series "All About Colors of the Seasons," the words to know are listed on the contents page. Unfortunately, the opportunity to introduce a dozen colors is lost since red and yellow are repeated in each title of the series. The rainbow of colors is not accurate, since it leaves out indigo. It is a disservice to kids to only show six of the seven colors especially since the book Over and Under by Jane Katirgis is from the same publisher and does the job accurately. The young girl on the cover is really decked out in a variety of colors as she stands ready to take the snorkel swim. Continuing in the book there is a red ladybug, slice of orange cantaloupe, bright yellow sunflowers, green grass, and a very blue sky. Most of the items however are not identified by name. Young readers will be amused at the young boy covered in brown mud. As with Spring, black and white are also introduced to readers. The question posed at the end is to name the colors in the display for the Fourth of July summer holiday. The closing page contains references to two older books, websites, and an index.
