Little Ben, a gentle and caring bear, is in the second grade, and his class has just celebrated the 100th day of school. As a part of the celebration, Bens teacher asks all of the young animals to peform 100 acts of kindness for those people who live in their surroundings. The teacher will record each kindness and the childs name and post it on the classroom bulletin board. The teachers enthusiasm for the project and the goal of covering the board with kind hands spreads to the children. Ben quickly completes three acts of kindness by helping others, and his fourth hand will be for a letter he is writing to his Nana, or his grandmother. The letter itself is not the kind act, but the letter will tell Bens Nana all the reasons why he loves her and that will be the kind act. As with many kind acts that others do, this one will bring Ben rewards too as he is reminded of what a special Nana he has and how much she loves him. The author includes handicapped students, the elderly, and siblings to bring her point out to the reader, creating a wider appeal and improving the teachable factors of the story. This book is a great read-aloud for young children and will be a quick read for beginning readers., Children's Literature
